I am a reader that is big on first lines and first paragraphs to hook me. This book has done that for me! I can’t wait to finish the rest.

“In the beginning I was a little lost and it felt a bit disjointed - probably because I entered into it with preconceived expectations, but as I continued reading, I found myself being drawn in to the characters as if I knew them. I enjoyed the way Rosa Nicole Booker folded two books/stories into one with cliff hangers at the end of each. Like when Ollie snuck out to the skate party and found a message from Stevie when she finally got home. rosa’s writing is easy with cleverly illustrated scenes that don't feel forced. Rape and incest tend to be framed as horrible topics to conjure up outrage and as a 'click bait' tool. her approach, although as a matter that warrants serious and dedicated attention, seemed more of one of the building blocks that helped me understand Ollie's motivations, triumphs, and challenges - well done. I found her reading easy and well crafted.”

"I am happy to buy the book but me reading it won’t have the same effect as her voice. Wish she could read me the whole book!"

— Nita

"The power of story, even in the life-lived creativity of fiction writing, is the truth it conveys to its readers. So it was such a blessed night this weekend to see Rosa Nicole Booker share pieces of her novel and share pieces of her story.."

"Such a great moment for Rosa Nicole Booker. I 💯 support this author! It’s so hard for me to do anything outside of working with my young children. It was great to do something for me that wasn’t related to work. Rosa your book read was dope! It set me up for a great weekend of reflection. I will now and always applaud Rosa Nicole Booker’s boldness with her vulnerability in her debut book, “The Monster in My Room.”

Rosa Nicole Booker tackles such a dark subject of sexual trauma with a creative sense of sensitivity, that as a reader, you feel responsible to open your mind and heart to not only victims of such an act but to raise your awareness of the impact it will have in your community.

Bravo Rosa Nicole Booker, bravo indeed. “The Monster in My Room” is a conversation we all avoid, but it is a conversation we need to have.

Energy never dies, it just transfers. In this wonderfully wandering weave of story, Rosa Nicole Booker masterfully demonstrates what it looks and feels like to trade a detrimental energy in for one that is determined to produce a better outcome. Even if that force of energy has to be borrowed from something or someone else. The characters are believable. The scenarios are familiar. And Rosa’s brave writing makes it hard to keep emotions at bay. This book is the redemptive work of a heart longing for freedom.

"Olivia’s story is powerful and her husband is the kindest 🥺 you think of your own underlying traumas. Therapy being a part of the story is HUGE. I absolutely love it!"

— Marcela Areola

"I’m at the part about Maya and the beauty pageant…I like the book. There are twists and turns that reveal other relationships. Like with Sabrina’s unfortunate encounter and how Olivia and Sabrina have been there for each other. And all the ways Olivia and Lawrence work to support each other. The level of trauma Olivia has endured is mind boggling. It’s like every time a new character is introduced, I think to myself, what is going to happen now."

I’m gonna have to schedule book reading time cause I’ll mess around and call off work tomorrow to read this book!”
